APPLICATION STATUS: For weeks we have been calling Covered California to check on the status of mailed and faxed applications. Unfortunately, none of the applications were showing up as entered in the system. On Thursday, December 4th Covered California announced that they were in the process of keying in all of the applications that they had received. And, they reported that they have hired more staff to process the applications. However, on Friday December 6th we discovered that the backlog is so large that Covered California is asking Certified Agents to complete the entire online enrollment on behalf of their clients. As a result, RealCare staff is in the process of creating login information and keying in application data from the paper application that you submitted.
We are working 7 days a week to complete this task. We will send you an email confirmation when we’ve completed your application. The email will contain your login, password and PIN number for the Covered California site. There may be additional information you need to provide in order to complete the process. Our email confirmation will instruct you to log in to provide information that may be needed to complete and submit the application. Once submitted, you will be asked to choose your medical plan (unless eligible for Medi-Cal).
All applications must be submitted by December 23rd in order to request a January 1st effective date. To actually obtain a January 1st effective date, your first month’s premium must be paid or postmarked to your insurance carrier by December 31st. Before payment can be made, Covered California must process your application, transmit your enrollment data to your selected carrier, and your carrier must notify you of how to make your first premium payment.
Important Information on Medi-Cal: If your income meets the 2014 guidelines for Medi-Cal eligibility, your application will be forwarded from Covered California to Medi-Cal for processing. We have been advised that Medi-Cal will send information to you directly to complete their process. Again, there is no guarantee this process can be completed in time for a January 1st effective date.
We will make every effort to complete our portion of your online enrollment by December 12th.
Options for a January 1st Effective Date: If you must have a guaranteed January 1st effective date, you still have time to apply for an individual health insurance policy outside of Covered California, or enroll in the C.A.R. group health plan. And, if you are currently covered under the C.A.R. group health plan, you may continue that coverage until your Covered California policy is effective.
